Nice Hot Rod but I never understood why people always put small blocks into Fords. Are Ford engines really that much more expensive?

It's a *little* cheaper, and the conversion parts are off the shelf parts at this point. No. Effort. Required.

hose flames are so hot they have melted all the snow around it. Also if this is a recent pic, I feel bad for the dude still having that much snow on the ground at this time of year.

350s grow wildly so they just go and pick one.

Back in the day when the gen 1 SBC came out it was more powerful and faster than a flathead V8 car so thats when the trend started. I agree, I hate when I see a old non GM hotrod with a damn SBC in it, its so unoriginal in this day and age but its a trend that will carry on for a long time.

Just think of all the Camaros sitting in front yards.

The SBC, they're everywhere

To each their own I suppose but a non Ford engine in a Ford would turn me off from buying it,

Why are all those F bodies up on blocks in yards? Because all the engines ended up in old fords like this one

They also fit better in the early ford. The Chevy small block is a much smaller package that a small block ford. In most pre war fords you really have recess the firewall to get a ford to fit at all. A small block Chevy can fit in 32 and later fords with no firewall cutting needed, its tight but can be done.

not bad I'd swap the frame first thing to a speedway model a frame with 32 ford rails with a dropped I beam axle up front.

Ok that makes some more sense as to why the engine is chosen over just cost.

Not a fan of a 2nd gen Camaro frame? Probably handles "OK" for what it is.

cost is also a big factor, I have little dealing with fords but it was a nightmare compared to a Chevy. My grandfathers last hot rod had a 302 ford in it when he got it, the firewall was cleaned so much for a small block ford we had enough room to drop a big block Chevy in its place.

oh I love caramels but I prefer my hot rods with stock style frames and if ifs is wanted that a good kit for that frame. But I prefer dropped axles they can ride pretty nice. My 33 ford pickup has one a d I wouldn't change it for the world.

Yeah, the fbody subframe doesn't have the same appeal as a dropped axle. A trade off of style vs. handling. And I think the track width is kind of wonky on this car.

yeah it is a corvair front end works better with the model a and is just as old school because that fad died in the 70s. Corvair front end and a jag rear and you have a 70s rod

Is it just me or does this model A have mismatched track widths?

kinda looks like it, front looks wider than the rear. Usually the other was is ok to a certain degree. My 33 is just a tick wider. I wonder what rear end is under it

Looks like a GM 7.5 to me, and the front is wider than the rear.

the more I look at it the more I see of just using the body, motor and tranny and getting rid of the rest.
